Calum Douglas; Sarah Amy Fishlock;
Kotryna Ula Kiliulyte; Alan Knox
This exhibition features work by four lens-based artists, Calum Douglas, Sarah Amy Fishlock, Kotryna Ula Kiliulyte and Alan Knox. Having exhibited individually in venues including the Scottish Parliament (Edinburgh), Daniel Blau Gallery (London), British Council Gallery (Delhi) and Kaunas Gallery (Lithuania), this exhibition brings these emerging Glasgow-based artists together collectively for the first time. The exhibitions links the Platform in Easterhouse with a satellite exhibition at Lighthouse.
'Peripheral Histories' features four distinct bodies of work sharing thematic, aesthetic and conceptual overlaps. Calum Douglas explores the tension between science and belief in the search for extraterrestrial life in America’s southwestern states, while Alan Knox explores the relationship between the sublime and the uncanny by documenting the architecture of space simulation at the Mars Yard test area, constructed by Airbus Defence and Space in Stevenage. Kotryna Ula Kiliulyte combines photographs made by her father in the last days of the Soviet Union’s grip on her native Lithuania with her own images of life in the West made using expired film as old as the one used by her father. Sarah Amy Fishlock takes her late father’s life as a point of departure to investigate ideas of grief, mortality and memory in relation to the regenerative drive of the natural world, using double exposure to create a dual narrative that binds past and present.
Artists Talks at Platform on Thursday 15th September @ 3pm. All welcome.
Supported by Street Level Photoworks. The exhibition in Easterhouse features as an annual exhibitions partnership between Street Level and Platform.
