Creative Scotland with Scottish Government emergency COVID-19 funds launched the Culture Collective pilot programme to support creative practitioners, organisations and communities to work together across Scotland to help shape the future of local cultural life.
The programme focus is on community engaged creative activity, supporting 26 lead organisations in Scotland working collaboratively to develop ways of responding to the impacts of the ongoing pandemic and establish a network of creative practitioners, organisations and communities, working together to create a positive difference locally and nationally in response to COVID-19.
Street Level Photoworks have been awarded funding through this programme to support four Community based Artist Residencies across Govanhill and the Gorbals and a further two project posts based at Street Level in Trongate 103.
The project provides opportunities for:
• Two community-based artist residencies, part time (3 days a week) for 12 months across the neighbourhoods stated.
• Two supporting artist residencies for recent graduates whose practice aligns with community engagement, part time (3 days a week) for 12 months.
• One digital producer, part time (3 days a week) for 12 months developing online resources and programmes alongside the community-based artists.
• One facility assistant, part time (3 days a week) for an early career artist to support community engagement in the facilities in our public programme, including members, training courses, and the general development of production facilities.
Street Level’s resident artists will co-create opportunities for people to engage with a creative photography programme, starting in the summer of 2021 and running for 12 months. Skills sharing and training are key elements of the collaboration, enabling participants to be co-authors in the narratives as they develop and ensure a legacy locally.
