We are partners in Nationhood: Memory and Hope - the first ever UK City of Culture project to take place in all four nations. A celebration of the diversity of the UK today, this new collection of new photography serves as a modern-day insight into England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Featuring an outstanding collection of new photography by acclaimed Ethiopian photographer Aïda Muluneh, as well as work by local photographers in the four cities - Bradford, Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow.
The project shines a spotlight on those individuals who quietly but tirelessly work to make our world a better place. For Glasgow this includes Adele Patrick, a cultural worker; Anita Shelton, a human rights and equalities campaigner; and Linda Jackson, a musician, writer, publisher and activist.
Thrilled that through the project we have been able to commission Glasgow artists as part of this ambitious undertaking, Haneen Hadiy @haneenhadiyand Miriam Ali @miriamali whose work will add a local insight with participants in the city. Other local photographers are: Bradford - Roz Doherty and Shaun Connell; Belfast - Chad Alexander; Cardiff - Robin Springer and Grace Springer.
Aïda Muluneh’s work was seen on billboards around Bradford in September and October 2024, and the exhibition is currently on show at Impressions in Bradford until the 26th April, it then travels to Belfast Exposed, Ffotogallery (Cardiff) then at Street Level Photoworks in September of 2025. You can view a short video of Aida talking about her work on this page here (scroll half way down page) and more in general about Bradford 2025 here. The exhibition then travels to Belfast Exposed, Ffotogallery (Cardiff) then at Street Level Photoworks later in 2025.
