We are thrilled to be a partner in Nationhood: Memory and Hope - the first ever UK City of Culture project to take place in all four nations. A celebration of the diversity of the UK today, this new collection of new photography will serve as a modern-day insight into England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Featuring an outstanding collection of new photography by acclaimed Ethiopian photographer Aïda Muluneh, as well as work by local photographers in the four cities - Bradford, Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow.
The project shines a spotlight on those individuals who quietly but tirelessly work to make our world a better place. For Glasgow this includes Adele Patrick, a cultural worker; Anita Shelton, a human rights and equalities campaigner; and Linda Jackson, a musician, writer, publisher and activist.
Thrilled that through the project we have been able to commission Glasgow artists as part of this ambitious undertaking, Haneen Hadiy @haneenhadiyand Miriam Ali @miriamali whose work will add a local insight with participants in the city. Other local photographers are: Bradford - Roz Doherty and Shaun Connell; Belfast - Chad Alexander; Cardiff - Robin Springer and Grace Springer.
Aïda Muluneh’s work can be seen on billboards around Bradford until 6 October 2024, and you’ll be able to read more about these local heroes at bradford2025 . Thereafter the exhibition will launch at Impressions Gallery, Bradford, in January 2025, then embark on a tour to the other regional galleries – at Belfast Exposed, Ffotogallery (Cardiff) then at Street Level Photoworks later in 2025.
A Bradford 2025 and Impressions Gallery commission in partnership with Belfast Exposed, Ffotogallery, Cardiff and Street Level, Glasgow.
